Your story is my story. Just replace elected office with academic career. I'm tired of being a part of something where everything will be OK as long as I expend superhuman energy at all times.

It's so much! The impossible expectations. The public attacks. The lack of supports. I'm excited to dive into a whole series of things I touched on in this post. We really shouldn't have to live like this.

I'd love to know more about what you plan to do next!

Thank you Allison for capturing this experience and being brave to run for office, have a baby while in office, and to walk away from it, redefining what is best for you! I especially liked the section on advocacy taking many forms. You continue to serve the community but in a different way. Super proud and inspired by you!

Thank you, Nicole! That means so much coming from you. I couldn't have done any of it without you.

This is awesome, Allison! I had it much easier when Chuck was born because I had a four-month maternity leave to adjust, there wasn't a pandemic, and I had a surprising amount of support for a male-dominated profession once I went back. I can't imagine navigating a political career with all its slings and arrows, especially for women, without 100% of the rest of life being serene.

I'm so glad you had such a good support system! The pandemic certainly threw a wrench into things.... Next time I see you, we'll have to talk more about this!

I'm never in Denver any more, once the kids moved to Vermont. But I'm open to a visit on Zoom!
