Things that grabbed my attention this week
Like most people I know, I spent this last week trying to avoid getting completely overwhelmed by the news while simultaneously getting completely overwhelmed by the news. Even so, I managed to find a few pockets of time to read some really great pieces, a few of which I’m sharing with you here. (I also updated my About page, in case you’re curious about who it is you’re following/reading here).
Okay, here we go!
The Paradoxical “Fairness” of Childbirth, and Other Interesting New Research by
I recently discovered Stephanie’s work and am loving it, so far. But this piece in particular felt so validating because I very recently wrote about how moms don't have flexible work, they make their work flexible. But beyond that, she also digs into research on joint custody, helicopter parenting, and and childbirth.
The Weight of Despair and the Spirit of Resistance by
A deeply moving reflection on what this election means, how it intersects with the fight for liberation, and how art will play a role in moving forward.
The Misogyny of Mommy Brain by
A great dive into the research around “mommy brain” and “pregnancy brain”, why it happens, and why this type of language is problematic.
And also….
Are you hot enough for a dating app? by
The Crisis of Childcare when schools are closed by
MDMA Therapy Helped Me Leave My Marriage by
Pretty much everything on Abortion, Every Day by
And for those of you with young kids, I bought the A Little Spot of Emotion series by Diane Alber and we are loving it. More on that soon.
